Penta floating ball valve has the characteristic to adapt to a wide range of uses. The design has the aim to achieve the maximum reliability through the implementation of technical solutions that, even today, are unique on the market. All Penta valves are designed to be equipped with Pentafite metal seats enabling the creation of metal seated floating ball valve with Zero leakage for high­temperature operating conditions, up to 700°C. Furthermore, seats with hard surface materials in Chromium Carbide, Tungsten Carbide or Stellite are also available. All Penta floating ball valve are Antistatic Design, Automatic Body Cavity Relief, certificate Fires AFE ISO 10497 and in accordance with TA-LUFT well as in compliance with EU Directives “PED” , “ATEX” and SIL3 IEC61508.The different proposed models can cover a wide range of applications, going from the most common clean service with extreme temperature to cryogenic services with temperatures down to 1 96°C. Penta metal seated floating ball valve series includes a specific model for highly abrasive catalyst services or with the presence of solids, called SAT3. All Penta floating ball valve can be supplied with any type of actuator and control panel, in addition to the manual override. Challenge:

The valves are intended for a filtration system within nuclear power plants that must allow a high pressure and jet velocity of radioactive CO2 at 400 ° C. The design pressure is 5.3 Mpa, but the main problem is the running time, which must be very low.

 

Solution:

Thanks to the self-lubricating metal seats specific PENTAFITE and the special sliding bushes for the ball trunnions, we were able to supply DN 3 “ANSI valves 600 with 0.9 seconds of 180 ° run time (close-open-close) and DN 12 “ANSI 600 valves with less than 3 seconds of 180 ° run time.

The low coefficient of friction of the PENTAFITE self-lubricating material, which allows a 40% reduction in operating torques compared to other common carbide surface-coated seats and balls, made it possible to withstand the high sliding speeds. At the moment, the valves are still in service without maintenance and with no reported problems.
